The Chiropractors Act governs the public’s right to safe, effective and ethical chiropractic care in NL.
The NLCB investigates enquiries, allegations and complaints made about a chiropractor’s practice, conduct or health. The Registrar is responsible for receiving and reviewing enquiries from the public and determining appropriate steps to promote the protection of the public and ensure adherence to high standards of practice by registrants in NL
Individuals may raise a complaint for a variety of reasons, including:
- verbal, physical, psychological, emotional or sexual abuse
- failing to seek consent for treatment
- providing false or misleading information regarding treatment
- providing unnecessary or excessive treatment
- negligent practice causing harm
- discontinuing needed care without arranging for alternative services
- releasing information about a patient without consent
- failing to advise a patient to consult another health care professional when the practitioner knows the patient’s condition is beyond his/her scope of practice or competence
- failing to advise about the fee structure prior to treatment
If you have a concern with the conduct of a chiropractor:
If you have a concern and you wish to discuss your options, you may contact the NLCB by phone to discuss the matter or write a letter, or email attachment outlining your concerns. This does not need to constitute a formal complaint. If you are interested in submitting a formal allegation, this must be filed in writing. All Allegations must be signed and submitted by mail, fax or email attachment.
Allegations should include:
- your name and contact information (mailing address and phone number);
- the name of the chiropractor;
- as much information as possible about your concerns or the incident(s) in question, such as dates and names of individuals who may have been involved or who would be able to provide additional information.
